Learn to Make Patterns with a Simple Top Block

In a new pattern making series for Love Sewing Magazine, I’ll take you step-by-step through the pattern-making process, so you can learn how to be your own designer. You will make a toile of a simple top pattern, which you will use as a block (template) to start drafting your own patterns.

If you’re used to using ready-made patterns, pattern drafting can seem daunting at first. Traditional methods often require a lot of maths and calculations. But I’ve found the best way to start experimenting with creating your own styles and designs is by using a base pattern and adjusting that.

Start by making up the simple top pattern and adjusting it to get a great fit.
