  • A Line

A fun A-line skirt, this style is ideal for beginners. It features a faced waistband creating a smooth silhouette and a classic centred zip.

    Pencil

A close fitting pencil skirt perfect for a smart day to evening look. The skirt features a faced waistline and a back split to give great freedom of movement.

    Gathered

A pretty gathered skirt, ideal for adventurous new dressmakers. Learn how to create neat gathers in your fabric with our step-by-step photo guide. This style features the same zip insertion, but this time adding a standard waistband with a button or skirt hook fastening.

    Pleated

A crisp pleated skirt. Deep, inverted pleats give this style a more structured look. This style features the same classic centred zip insertion, with a standard waistband with a button or skirt hook fastening. Make in stiffer cotton, linen or even brocade for a more structured contemporary look.

  • For the Gathered skirt, opt for lighter weight woven fabrics. Suitable fabrics include: cotton lawn, chambray, viscose challis, viscose twill.

The Pleated, A-line and Pencil skirt can be made in a slightly heavier weight woven fabric. The Pleated and A-line suit crisp, heavier weight fabrics which hold creases well. The fitted style of the pencil skirt means you may feel more comfortable using a fabric with a little stretch. Suitable fabrics include: denim, cotton poplin, craft cotton, cotton lawn, cotton twill, linen, corduroy.

If you’re a more experienced sewist, you may enjoy the challenge of working with velvet, brocade, wool, geometric prints or horizontal stripes.

It is vitally important, when sewing your own clothes, to take accurate measurements of your body, and not rely on the sizing you expect to buy on the high street. For this pattern we have opted to use sizing 1-8, which approximately covers UK sizes 8-24. Measure yourself first to choose the right size for you!
